Historic Grainger Stadium in Kinston will be the new home of the Down East Bird Dawgs, an expansion team in the Frontier League and an MLB partner. We can't wait to see 'em...Play Ball!
NC Pork Council
Congratulations to Recruiter Megan Jensen and Stantonsburg Manager Hannah Jones for being selected to join the 2024 Pork Leadership Council! They both recently visited Washington, DC to meet with the National Pork Producers Council. Megan said, "I was honored that I was selected, along with 16 other individuals, to represent the pork industry in the Pork Leadership Carolina program. We held three sessions that not only exposed us to state-level issues but also federal-level issues. We had the amazing opportunity to travel to Washington, DC and meet with the National Pork Producers Council to gain a better understanding of what they are doing to help the industry. During our conversations with Congressmen and Senators, we were able to shed light on the challenges we have experienced working in the swine industry. Now I have a better understanding of the Pork Council and how I can help advocate for the wonderful industry I love." Way to go, Megan and Hannah! 🎉
New Chair of UNC Board of Governors, Wendy Murphy
Congratulations to Wendy Murphy on being elected the new chair of the University of North Carolina Board of Governors! This is the first time in UNC System history that the Board of Governors is made up of all-female officers. Your MFV family is proud of you and your accomplishments, Wendy!

River Landing Wins 2023 Viewers’ Choice Award for Best Wedding Venue
River Landing won the best wedding venue in the shopping and entertainment category of the 2024 Viewers’ Choice Awards hosted by WWAY TV in Wilmington. They’ve won this award every year since 2021, and have also won Best Golf Course in the past. Check out WWAY’s website for a list of all of the top winners.
The North Carolina Youth Outdoor Engagement Commission
The North Carolina Youth Outdoor Engagement Commission hosted its first event celebrating efforts to promote outdoor activities among the state's youth. As chairman of the commission, Dell Murphy hosted the event at the River Landing Clubhouse. The commission has reached over 280,000 youth in 98 counties and awarded more than $9.1 million in grants to schools and non-profits. MFV is honored to be a part of this initiative providing enriching experiences for North Carolina's kids!
MFV Employees on Pork Council
Congratulations to Recruiter Megan Jensen and Stantonsburg Manager Hannah Jones for being selected for the 2024 Pork Leadership Council! Megan stated, "This year-long program prepares young pork industry professionals for future leadership through sessions in Raleigh and Washington, D.C., focusing on industry knowledge and advocacy. We have three mandatory sessions, including two days in Raleigh learning about the pork industry, the organizations involved, and key issues facing the industry, one day in Raleigh for the General Assembly, where we visit with state leaders in agriculture and legislature, and two days in Washington, D.C., where we visit with a Congressional delegation and learn from the National Pork Producers Council. It is a wonderful program that exposes us to the legislative side of the industry and teaches how to properly advocate for the pork industry. We are both very proud to be part of this year’s program."
New Golf Course Rankings for River Landing
We are excited to share that River Landing has once again been ranked among the top 40 golf courses in the state, with the River Course now in the top 20, by the NC Golf Panel!
The River Course has moved up to #20 in the state and #1 course in the region.
The Landing Course has moved up to #31 in the state and #2 in the region.

Wallace Fire Department receives donation from Murphy Family Ventures
The Wallace Fire Department will be able to provide additional firefighter training to its volunteers, thanks to a donation from Wendell, Dell, and Wen Murphy. President and CEO Dell Murphy of Murphy Family Ventures said he is grateful for the volunteer fire department.
Albemarle Boats Announces New 45 Carolinian Fish Around Express Model
Albemarle Boats, The Carolina Classic is pleased to announce that a new 45 foot Carolinian Fish Around Express is currently under construction, and this new model will debut in early 2025. According to Albemarle General Manager, Burch Perry, “The debut of the 53 Spencer Edition in October marked our sixth new model in less than seven years. Our ongoing commitment to product development is evident, and our momentum continues. We are tremendously excited about the 45 Carolinian. While her lines give away her heritage, this boat will be unlike anything we have built before in terms of size, power, and layout.

Each year Murphy Family Ventures’ River Landing Country Club hosts its annual Hope for the Warriors fundraiser event. Hope For The Warriors is a national nonprofit organization in the United States that provides assistance to combat wounded service members, their families, and families of those killed in action. The organization focuses on those involved in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom and their families. During this year’s three day event, River Landing held a Warrior Night Celebration, golf tournament, and a Soiree. .
MFV Employee Accecpted Into Pork Leadership Program

The North Carolina Pork Council recently created the 2022 Pork Leadership Carolina Program, and our very own Joey Short, Farrowing Department Manager for Peters Creek, has been selected to be a part of the inaugural group! We would also like to recognize Alec Linton for being chosen. Alec is the son of AJ Linton who serves as the Land and Nutrient Management Manager for NC. The three-session program will help further prepare the group for the challenges and opportunities the agriculture industry will encounter in the future, and upon completion of the program, participants will be able to identify the threats facing our industry, confidently engage with neighbors and the media about their farms, as well as foster supportive relationships with key industry stakeholders to promote and protect the pork industry in North Carolina and beyond.
